The Soviet Union
through the camera

____

2015/2018

The exhibition "The Soviet Union through the camera" is composed of works by several photographers from the former Soviet Union, depicting various regions of this "ghost country". Through the eyes of different artists of great international renown, of different formations and aesthetics, the exhibition makes possible a trip to a distant culture. Showcasing the aesthetics of Soviet-era photography and the richness of the Russian and Soviet school of photography, several topics of great historical importance for the understanding of the Soviet regime, such as education, health, sport, fashion, communist youth, culture, science and industry, are being discussed. With the help of these topics, the exhibition aims to provide the viewer with a deep understanding of everyday life in the Soviet Union during these four decades. To portray this environment, curators of the exhibition selected works by some of the most important photographers from the former USSR: Vladimir Lagrange, Leonid Lazarev, Vladimir Bogdanov, Yuri Krivonossov, Victor Akhlomov and Antanas Sutkus.
